EVERDEEN:
Brooding and ethereal yet hopeful − EVERDEEN makes indie rock of the sort you’d expect to find in the UK or Scandinavia, although the multinational trio hails from Southern Germany. Drawing on international influences, EVERDEEN combines elements of shoegaze, post-rock and pop with a compelling female voice to create their own brand of dark and dreamy rock.
Psychedelic washes of fuzzy guitars, electronic textures, and driving post-punk beats provide the orchestration for singer-guitarist Sümeyra Stahl’s introspective lyrics, delivered with unmistakable emotion and clarity. The mix of dreamy pop and indie with female vocals can be reminiscent of artists such as Daughter, Mitski, or Warpaint while at times hinting at Beach House or the XX.
EVERDEEN’s diverse influences might be explained by the band’s international origins. After two years living in London as a singer- songwriter, the half German, half Turkish Sümeyra moved to San Francisco, where she found a musical soulmate in American guitarist Ian Stahl. Faced with the musician-unfriendly rising costs of living in California, the couple relocated to Sümeyra‘s home of Stuttgart, Germany, attracted by the possibilities of the European music scene.
The move led them to kindred spirit Thommy Mross, whose drumming completed EVERDEEN’s sound. It wasn’t long before the newly- formed band started to catch the attention of the local scene, with a drive that quickly led to to shows all over Germany in 2017 and 2018 as well as international appearances in Vienna and Sweden.
With the goal of capturing their live energy on tape, EVERDEEN went into the studio with producer Ralv Milberg (Die Nerven, Levin Goes Lightly), resulting in three singles released in Summer 2019, each accompanied by a music video. Characterized by a wisp of melancholy, a glimmer of pop, and no shortage of indie rock energy, the three songs both showcase a developed sound while simultaneously only offering a taste of the band’s live repertoire. Those hoping for more music are in luck – with three more singles and a tour planned for Spring 2020, EVERDEEN is a band to keep an eye on.

PHILEMIC:
Young, alternative and in full bloom of a first born record. With the release of their debut EP the indie-rock band Philemic offers to be yet another refreshing excitement in a city that has mainly been drifting into underground electro parties: Berlin.
Starting in 2015 as a psychedelic-rock quartet, the german young guns have taken a rather radical transformation over the course of multiple local shows. The result is a primary record release show in the Maze with a promising ‘SOLD OUT’ ring to it, a stunning juvenile, yet shy stage performance and light guitars wrapped around an ordinary groovy beat, leaving the audience jumping between the ropes of melodic pop instructions and the big questionmark of an adolescence crisis, portrayed by lead-singer Caner Mican’s tender as almost feminine voice.

“I don’t feel like putting a specific message to our music” says the vocalist helplessly gazing for a spot to concentrate his eyes on. “I always stick to things I’ve experienced or stories I can paint around.”

Remarkable is the broad spectrum used to display what’s inside of the young adult’s mind going from dancetracks à la Roosevelt in Party Analyst to teenage summer-rock anthems in Girls On Bikes. With the gloves of a familiar atmosphere Philemic throws the listener into a pirouhette, knowing they’ll spin between the two poles of modern day rock-tunes and family-friendly electronic dance music. The addition of 5th bandmember and guitarist Florian Pieper in 2018 allows them to drive into a wider and more diverse mood by putting the focus on warm synths and percussive elements. Ultimately the sound sharpening journey found it’s peak with the collaboration of producer Guy Sternberg (Lion Sphere, Reema, Port Almond).
