DAVID BERKELEY·FREITAG, 2. NOVEMBER 2018·
Called “a double fantasy of Nick Drake and Donovan” by Rollingstone and praised for his “lustrous, melancholy voice” by The New York Times, Santa Fe-based songwriter and author David Berkeley has been a guest on This American Life, won the Kerrville New Folk competition and ASCAP’s coveted Johnny Mercer Songwriter Award. In the midst of touring with his duo project Son of Town Hall, Berkeley has been busy writing and recording a batch of political songs that speak to our divided and troubled times. Releasing November 2nd, just in time for Election Day, "The Faded Red and Blue" comprises five profoundly moving and timely songs that we all need to hear. The collection addresses immigration, gun violence, suicide, the environment, and the fear that elected Trump. Rather than striking a tone of anger or preaching, though, Berkeley has found a voice that is unifying and even hopeful. "It's been a challenge to do more than just rage," Berkeley says. "But that's not why I write songs. I would have gone into politics, I suppose, if I wanted that. I want to try to find a way through this. I want to do more than just piss people off." Berkeley has found poetry in the madness, and the result is beautiful and brave. Hear more at davidberkeley.com
